Boomers neighbors wanted to put a flag on *my* flagpole Boomer Story My husband and I own a rural, undeveloped property. As such, there's a group of about 10-12 people who share a water source together. This little water group meets once a year, and it's a nice time to talk to the neighbors- especially because we actually are pretty physically separated from the nearest house. For some reason, our piece of land has a giant flagpole on it. It doesn't even have a driveway, flagpole. but it has a b

During our recent yearly water board meeting, the president- an old boomer man, gave an update about "the flagpole project." Turns out he, by himself, had been planning to go onto our land and erect two additional flagpoles, and was going to fly several flags to represent branches of the US armed forces. "That's so nice, for our service members," all the other boomer neighbors agreed. My husband and I are the youngest members by far- probably at least 20 years or more younger than anyone else wh

I looked at my husband and I could just see the smoke rising from his ears. Two things my husband hates: other people, and the idea of other people breaking the sacred solitude that is our undeveloped parcel of land. We didn't say anything at the meeting, but immediately upon returning home my husband emailed everyone in the water board that absolutely not would they be putting up more flagpoles on our land.

He didn't mention how irritated he was that they would presume to erect a permanent installation on not-their-land. He instead said it was a major insurance liability. The president basically huffed and said "well it's for the TROOPS." I think my husband replied "No thanks." Lolol

Sasquatch1729 13h ago Good thing you put a stop to this. Today it's "for the troops", tomorrow it will be a Trump 2024 set of flags. 1K Reply ↑ Share • 510jew 12h ago If you give a buche a cookie, eventually he's gonna want a glass of trump flag to go with it. Reply ↑ Share 518

desert_jim 12h ago • Agreed. Definitely feels like there was some other agenda to train them to get used to being pushed around. Maybe they thought they'd cave because it was "for the troops", the age difference of the neighbors (you are younger and will respect muah authoritay) and awkwardly putting them on the spot in a meeting? If it were me I'd probably get getting rid of the flagpole all together since I don't use it. That way flags don't show up on it later. 98 Reply ↑ Share + More replies

    • Smilewigeon 13h ago I'm tickled that they thought something like that necessitated being called a 'project'. You could've leaned heavily into that; asked to form a sub committee and demand to see the previous minutes, and at the end of it stuck the Canadian flag or something up it. ↑ 359 + 33 more replies Reply ↑ Share ... wraith1984 12h ago • Stick a pride flag up there and watch how fast they shut up. 210 Reply ↑ Share ...

    • Even_Studio_1613 11h ago Most modern vets I know don't like to be reminded of their service. It's strange that the boomers seem to make other people's service all about them. It's like a form of stolen Valor whole legitimizing the most recent American war that should have never happened. 174 ⇓ Reply ↑ Share

SuperbBison2867 • 13h ago Boomers have nothing better to do so...They invent names and assign tags to processes to make them into a big deal. We had a customer who was convinced we'd "tried to pull a fast one on him and he had the proof".... This Jack ass had printed out like 8 pages of 8.5/11 pics to 'show' us..beginning with "see??? This sticker says PROCESSSED on May 3.... That means YOU ALL processed it!!!!” No sir - the item itself was made in a facility in city X...we put the sticker on it

the_witch_askew 11h ago I promise you "the troops" do not give a singal watery | about some flags out in a rural area. 35 Reply ↑ Share Independent-Win9088 10h ago Ahh, yes, nothing says boomer quite like performative patriotic cosplay. They like the idea of "support" but not actually support they have to pay for in taxes. They'll fly all sorts of flags "for the troooooops," then vote for people and policies that actively destroy their lives. 33 Reply ↑ Share

BigMax • 10h ago I'm sure the troops would rest easy knowing there's a flag in the middle of nowhere that has the name of their military branch on it. "Hey guys... what if everything was the same, but someone wrote 'army' on a flag, and then displayed it somewhere almost no one will see? Won't that be AWESOME???" 22 Reply ↑ Share

StrangeRequirement78 · 10h ago Boomers love to appropriate things that aren't theirs. They don't seem to understand private property or personal space. They refuse to comprehend things that aren't for or about them. I understand the "Me Generation" more and more. They think the whole world is theirs to the rest of us are just peasants. and 19 Reply ↑ Share
